Delmar Warrant Checks
Delmar sits on a state line, so figure out the jurisdiction first. A warrant check only works when you search the system that matches the issuing state.
- Read the citation, notice, or court paper and record the state, court, case or citation number, and date.
- For a Maryland matter, search Maryland Judiciary Case Search and narrow the results to Wicomico County.
- Call the Wicomico District Court at 410-713-3500 for a Maryland traffic or misdemeanor case, or the Clerk of the Circuit Court for Wicomico County at 410-543-6551, option 3, for a Circuit file.
- For a Delaware matter, use the Delaware court or agency named on the paper instead of the Maryland portal.
- Call Delmar Police at 410-896-3131 only for a local police report question.
Delmar Police Serve a Two-State Town
Delmar straddles Maryland and Delaware, and that split shapes any warrant question. The Delmar Police Department works the whole municipality from 102 South Penn Avenue in Delmar, Maryland, and lists a non-emergency line, a fax number, and 911 for emergencies. Its FAQ section explains how to request reports. What the department cannot do is fuse two court systems. One Delmar police report can describe an incident that later landed in a Maryland court or a Delaware one, and the officer who wrote it may not know which docket followed. The department posts its address, services, and report process on its own pages: Delmar Police official page.
One department, two state court systems, which is why the jurisdiction question comes first.

Confirm Maryland or Delaware Before You Search
A Maryland result cannot answer a Delaware question. If the paper names Delaware, the Wicomico courts and Maryland Case Search are the wrong systems, no matter where the officer works or where Delmar sits. So write the issuing state at the top of your notes before you call anyone. Keep the citation number, the court name, and the date together, because staff on both sides of the line ask for them in that order.
The same person, address, and police department can appear in two state systems, so confirm the issuing state before trusting any search result.
Warrants in Delmar: The Main Types
The type of process decides the court, and the court in a Delmar warrant matter decides who can answer your question.
| Type | What It Does | Who Handles It |
|---|---|---|
| Arrest warrant | Authorizes taking a named person into custody | Issuing court and a serving agency |
| Bench warrant | Issues after a missed date or a violated condition | Court with the underlying case |
| Capias | A writ directing custody, often after indictment | Issuing court |
| Search warrant | Authorizes a search of a place, person, or thing | Issuing judicial officer |
| Out-of-state warrant | Process from another jurisdiction, which may involve extradition | Issuing state and the sheriff's Civil Process Division |
What Delmar's Search-Warrant Policy Says
Delmar's department publishes a search-warrant policy with one clear deadline: a Maryland search warrant return goes to the issuing judicial officer within 10 days, not counting weekends and legal holidays. Search warrants authorize a search of a place, person, or thing. The rule says nothing about how long an arrest warrant or a bench warrant stays valid, and it is not a clearing deadline. Reading it as one would be a costly mistake. The policy itself is posted here: Delmar Police search-warrant policy.
Delmar Warrant Records: What They Show
A Delmar docket entry describes an event on a date. It does not label a warrant as open or closed, so ask the clerk to interpret anything unclear.
| Issuing state and court | The first field to confirm, because it decides which system you use. |
|---|---|
| Case or citation number | The identifier the clerk needs to pull the file. |
| Charge | The offense as the charging document states it. |
| Event history | Entries such as INIT, CMIT, and BOND mark activity on the docket. |
| Service or return | What the serving agency recorded after an attempt or an arrest. |
Delmar Police Reports and Court Case Numbers
Ask the department for a report copy and you get an agency record with its own number. That number is not the court's case number. The clerk cannot look up a file with it unless the two have been connected in a Delmar case.
Note: Keep the police report number and the court case number on separate lines so you can give each office the identifier it recognizes.
The department's FAQ page covers report requests and service questions.
Report copies come from the department, while the docket comes from the court.
Delmar Warrants and Wicomico County
A Maryland-side warrant in Delmar travels the same route as anywhere else in the county. A town officer writes the citation. The state court hears the case. The sheriff, or another agency serving process, carries the paper out. The county-wide picture sits on the Wicomico County warrant records home page, including search limits and the service side of things.
Delmar Traffic Warrants and MVA Notices
Maryland gives a traffic citation 30 days to be paid, put in a payment plan, or set for trial, the District Court traffic page explains. Skip the hearing and two things follow. The Motor Vehicle Administration sends a license notice. A bench warrant can issue under Maryland Criminal Procedure section 5-212. Delaware citations work differently. A Maryland payment will not resolve one, so a Delmar driver needs the Delaware process instead.
Check the issuing state on a traffic paper before paying anything, because a payment sent to the wrong system leaves the original case open.
Accessing Delmar Warrant Records
Maryland court records are open in principle, with statewide limits. Juvenile files stay closed. So do expunged and shielded records, plus some unserved warrant papers, and the access guidance lists each category. Delaware keeps its own access rules, which apply to a Delaware file no matter where the person lives. A Delmar town office cannot release another state's court record.
Warrant Service Across the State Line
The two-state setting shows up most at service. Warrants, criminal summonses, civil papers, peace orders, writs, and extradition scheduling all run through the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office Civil Process Division. A warrant issued elsewhere can become a county matter. Once the person is here, Delmar sits in that picture too.
Note: A sheriff can describe service and extradition process, but the issuing court in the other state still controls the warrant itself.
For a Maryland service question, the sheriff's main line is 410-548-4891. Call ahead to confirm the address before visiting Delmar offices.
